After obtaining her FNP license, Karen returned to Triangle ENT & Allergy, where she worked with Dr. Robert Taylor, an environmental otolaryngologist and integrative practitioner who specializes in allergy, food sensitivities, thyroid conditions, and chemical and mold toxicities, Karen continued her work with Low Dose Allergy (LDA) therapy, this time as a provider, and was a member of the AAOA.
As a nurse practitioner, Karen also worked part-time at the Carolina Women’s Research and Wellness Center in Durham specializing in women’s wellness as a research coordinator conducting clinical trials, and as a family nurse practitioner, performing annual physicals, including nutrition and weight loss counseling, testing and treatments for micronutrient deficiencies, food sensitivities, and contraception maintenance. She is also experienced in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), benign positional vertigo (BPPV), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), thyroid disorders, and Candida overgrowth.
Her functional and integrative medicine experience continued at Whole Health Solutions in Cary, NC, where she provided care until Jan. 2019. There she worked with individuals treating the whole body for wellness, and healing through various integrative methods including detoxification, stress reduction, weight loss/nutrition, gut inflammation and healing, and natural blood sugar balancing. Her other areas of expertise include treating allergies with LDA, autoimmune disorders, mold toxicity, thyroid conditioning, and hormone balancing with BHRT, chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia, digestive disorder, and boosting the immune system to help with chronic diseases caused by Lyme disease and viruses.
She joined the team at Haven Medical in January 2019, where she continues to use her functional medicine background to promote healing and optimal wellness with her patients.
Karen is an avid volunteer. She currently serves on the Summit Church Emergency Response Team and has worked with the Samaritan Health Center, and participating in a medical mission to Honduras. She is a certified Yoga Hatha, Prenatal and Pilates instructor and teaches at the Downtown Durham YMCA.
