Experience and Education
Dr. Fraed was born in Indiana, Pennsylvania. She graduated from John Brown University with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. After completing training as a Medical Technologist she attended Creighton University School of Medicine. Her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology was completed at St. Louis University Hospitals. During residency she worked with a Midwifery training program and had an opportunity to view their philosophies of caring for women. She then practiced in Southern Illinois first in a group practice then in solo practice. In the early years of her practice she was instrumental in moving the birthing process into a gentler family-centered experience. Over the years she has been honored to care for patients of various cultures and faiths including members of Mennonite communities as well as women from the Arab countries that were in her locale. She has always had a deep spirituality that has led her to learn about and respect many faith traditions. Dr. Fraed feels it is important to meet people where they are and take into account their entire belief system.
Dr. Fraed continued to develop her interest in psychology, taking classes in the Educational Psychology Department at Southern Illinois University. She has pursued a life-long interest in alternative medicine and in 2001 was board-certified in Holistic Medicine through the American Holistic Medicine Association. Blending her interests in a holistic approach, psychology, and gynecology, she began focusing her practice on issues of perimenopause, menopause, women’s sexual health, and pelvic pain. When she studied Craniosacral Therapy and learned this gentle hands-on technique, she was able to further develop her diagnostic skills in evaluating problems with pelvic pain and sexual issues. She has been prescribing bio-identical hormones with the help of compounding pharmacists for more than twenty years. After closing her solo private practice she spent time working in various clinics focusing on contraception and other gynecological issues. She recently moved to Northeast Ohio following an academic spouse and joined Osteomed II/Tenpenny Integrative Medicine Center to continue on a path of expanding her knowledge in holistic care. During her time there she also trained as a B.E.S.T. (Bioenergetic Synchronous Technique) practitioner and is an Elite Diplomat in that technique. With the recent move to North Carolina, she has joined Haven Medical and is eagerly expanding her knowledge and skills as a holistic physician.
